Nikki Haley declares her candidature for president, taking on Donald Trump

The former governor of South Carolina and ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, declared her campaign for president on Tuesday, making her the first significant contender to outgoing President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination in 2024.
Haley, 51, is the first of several Republicans who are anticipated to begin their campaigns for the year 2024 in the coming months.

If elected, Haley would be the first American president of Indian descent and the first female president of the country.
When she started her maiden run for public office in 2004, she was an accountant and she defeated the member of the South Carolina House with the longest tenure.
